Welcome to Sweet Corn House, a new and elegant three-bedroom, four-bath Colonial home on the hill above Governors Harbour. Sweet Corn is walking distance from both the town of Governors Harbour and world-famous French Leave beach. It comes with a golf cart for quick and easy transportation to town and the beach.
Sweet Corn is graced by shady, wrap-around verandas overlooking landscaped tropical gardens and a private swimming pool. The first floor of Sweet Corn features a large and sunny open-plan living area ideal for entertaining. The great room has lounge seating for five+ and dining room seating for six. The island kitchen, with stainless steel appliances, is open to the great room and features additional bar-chair seating. There is an adjacent powder room and laundry room.
The first floor of Sweet Corn has two separate bedroom suites with full baths, one with a queen bed and one with a king bed. The king bedroom suite has a kitchenette and can be accessed from the great room or directly from the garden via a separate keyed entrance.
The second floor of Sweet Corn is devoted entirely to the master bedroom suite. This spacious suite features a luxurious modern bathroom, two private balconies, and a private sun deck with views of the Atlantic Ocean. Sweet Corn has air conditioning throughout the house, cable TV, DVD player, wifi internet, land line telephone, travel crib, and an outdoor gas grill.
Sweet Corn is one of five homes on the estate formerly owned by Sir Harold Christie, and on which his gracious Bahamian Colonial mansion still stands. Sweet Corn can be rented along with other homes on the estate to accommodate larger groups. Daily housekeeping, private chef, and other services are always available on the estate for an additional charge.
The town of Governors Harbour, a three-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
Walking down the hill in the other direction takes you to French Leave Beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the Caribbean. By foot, it’s about 8 minutes to French Leave, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which is literally deserted most of the time. By golf cart, French Leave Beach is 3 minutes away.

Better than excellent!! The house and grounds were better than described. Close to the beach and near town. The french leave beach is the all time best around! Kathy was the most gracious host, a real sweet person! Will definitely be back!
A golf cart is included! This guest reserved the house 6 months ago, long before there was an intention to include a golf cart. The decision to buy a golf cart was made just a month ago, and the ad was updated to mention the golf cart just a couple of weeks ago. The golf cart has now arrived and will be included in all rentals from now on.
Kathy is a real superb hostess. Everything was top notch. There was even cold beer in the fridge, a home made lasagna and a bottle of red wine waiting for us!
Even though Hurricane Irma chased us out of Eleuthera early, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at Sweet Corn House! The house was very clean and well equipped. We had 6 adults and the layout of the bedrooms/bathrooms was ideal. The owner, Kathy, was a joy to work with and I couldn't recommend a better place to stay.
