The food of the south: the local food is as good as it gets.
From the local gelato at Rinaldi's at the piazza del tocco in Gerace,to the fancy restaurant, the small trattoria, the pizza,the food is the delicacy and irresistible.
Do not eat too much of the appetizers, everything tastes so good you want to leave room for dessert;
Do not forget to sit out at night and have a granita,then sit by the 'Bombarde' the balcony to the world of Gerace
Perhaps it is the sun or the water or the ripeness of the fruit, but the granita it is incomparable.
Strolling through the cobblestone of Gerace, it's a pleasure to grace through the barriers shops the most exquisite ceramics, linen, lace. At Christmas time the churches have manger scene; they compete with each other and they are very artistic and unique. Famous composers performed concerts in the churches at Christmas creating an atmosphere that brings you back centuries after the concerts the most delicious hot chocolate takes away the chill.
Villarosa: the interiors
The archaic smile of Persephone welcomes the guest at the entrance door which, together with the inscription engraved on the adjacent fireplace, reminds us that we are immersed in the environment of Magna Graecia, an ancient land of great hospitality and culture.
You then enter, under the good auspices of the Goddess who was once believed to regulate the seasons, into the large living room that has a large and functional kitchen, a long glass table for lunches and dinners with friends, a large showcase crockery holder, reading corner, two sofas (one double and one single) and a cot.
Next to it, in ancient Roman style, there is a large bathroom with shower and bathroom fixtures and, opposite, an area with a sink and a long closet.
Going up the stairs made of pietra serena we find a large space with three bedrooms: one, with frosted and stained glass walls, contains a large desk together with a single and a half brass bed. Next to it is the master bedroom with a double bed in wrought iron and a romantic terrace overlooking the Antonimina valley and the first offshoots of the Aspomonte. Finally, there is the guest bedroom with a double bed, also in wrought iron, and a cot with adjustable sides for children.
In the bright hallway, there is still a single bed and, at the service of all the sleeping area, a bathroom with old-English style fixtures, a large shower and, hidden by two artistic gratings, the compartments for the washing machine and what may be needed. for the laundry.
From the sleeping area you then go up to the magnificent upper terrace where, especially in the brightest nights, it seems to be able to touch the large vault of the firmament that extends solemnly over the whole surrounding environment including the green hill, the blue sea and the purple mountain.
Also in front of the lower living room there is a large terrace equipped with a rocking chair, chairs and a table in wood and wrought iron for afternoons and mornings dedicated to sunbathing or evenings with family or friends.
It is not without reason that a Canadian guest wrote in the book dedicated to the thoughts of the "Guests" of the villa that it is useless to look elsewhere for Paradise: it is close at hand in the quiet, beautiful and comfortable residence called "Villarosa".
The house is 100% central heated in winters.
