Its varying scenery and colours makes Baunei one of the most interesting territories not only in the Ogliastra region, but also on the entire island. Its multi-shaped environment spreads over two of the most important natural monuments in Sardinia: the Supramonte and the Gennargentu.
Baunei boasts spectacular panoramas and lush, colourful forests enriched by fauna e flora. It\'s the largest territory in Ogliastra and extends to the sea, offering the visitor its natural beauties such as the Cala Goloritzè to the Cala Luna coastline; ripped stacks overlooking the sea like Punta Pedra Longa otherwise known as \"Agugliastra\" and the nearby seaside village of Santa Maria Navarrese.
We highly recommend visiting its most significant monument, the Torre dei Saraceni, which majestically rises on the beach. It has the shape of a truncated cone and was built to thwart off the pirates\' raids, sometime towards the end of the 1800\'s, on the ruins of an earlier outpost from the 1600\'s.

Unfortunately, the nuraghic complexes of Co \'e Serra and Orgoduri are in quite a state of decay.
Noteworthy are the Tombe dei Giganti of Santu Pedru and Annida, the great monument of Doladorgiu and the Nuraghe Nuragheddu and Alvu.
One of the most interesting sites is the Medieval church of S. Pietro in Golgo, close to the town and built in the XVIII Century. It is surrounded by characteristic \"cumbessias\" where the festivities of the 29th of June are celebrated.
For passionate speleologists, this territory offers numerous points of interest, the most important being the Su Sterru pothole located in Golgo. It is the deepest in all of Europe and a frequent destination point for many excursionists.
Situated on the slopes of Mount Santo, the town of Baunei has a charming, panoramic position that dominates the entire area. On its main street, a XVII Century parish dedicated to St. Nicholas appears with its unique dome, painted by Andrea Lusso in 1700-Century style.
December 6th the patron St. Nicholas is celebrated and sometime in the middle of August, a fest celebrating goats is held.
The municipality organises various events throughout the year, mostly during the summer, including: evenings of folklore, music and dance where the protagonists are the beautiful costumes enriched by precious materials.
